Here is my interpretation. you can skip if you want but i just find it interesting reading other peoples interpretations of this film because you can really make it out to be whatever you want. so if you dont wanna read a whole lot, i suggest you skip. something that i like about this joker is that he isnt really like the previous ones. he really was a good guy initially and really did want to make people laugh. his first killing (the one on the subway) was just intended as self defense. (i am not justifying killing anyone, but thats just how it was) media took this and made it into a whole “a lower class citizen is starting a ‘kill the rich movement! ” ordeal. this was not the truth tho. arthur killed the men because they were beating him up, not to “start a movement.” anyway, arthur saw all of the people around him acting like he was their king and he was hero for killing those men. i feel that this kind of inflated his ego and made him think that it was ok if he killed more people, since everyone was praising him for doing it in the first place. he later starting killing people he was angry or frustrated with. e.g. randy since he got arthur fired, or his mother because she lied a whole lot and stood by when he was being abused. arthur started over and in a way created an alter ego and went by joker. he used this to cope with his anger and frustration with the society that abused and disowned him. he later killed murray because he played his video and invited him onto the show just for the sake of humiliating him. he was caught and everything and then he killed his psychiatrist. so that was my interpretation of the movie lmao.
How possibly he'd be imagining if in his imagination Bruce's parents died which really happened. This was special. No one will ever forget this! It was truly refreshing, to see a brilliant interpretation of such a complex character. A very high bench mark, which all future villainous portrayals should be trying to reach.
